Registration Applications for cultivation of Industrial Hemp are now being accepted by the Riverside County Department of Agriculture.
California Food and Agricultural Codes (FAC) § 81003 and 81004 require commercial industrial hemp growers and seed breeders to register with the local county agricultural commissioner prior to cultivation. The registration fee is outlined in § 4900 in the Title 3 of California Code of Regulations.
All interested parties must apply for registration using the appropriate application:
- To cultivate industrial hemp for commercial purposes, you must fill out the Industrial Hemp Registration Application for Growers:
- To cultivate industrial hemp for seed cultivar development or seed cultivar production, you must fill out the Industrial Hemp Registration Application for Seed Breeders. Registered seed breeders who plan to cultivate industrial hemp for seed cultivar production must also meet nursery stock licensing requirements.
The registration application must be submitted to the Riverside County Department of Agriculture office along with the registration fee. If growing in multiple counties, a separate registration and fee is required for each county.
YOU MAY NOT BEGIN CULTIVATION UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE OBTAINED YOUR PROOF OF REGISTRATION AND APPROVAL OF SEED CULTIVARS FROM THIS OFFICE.
Applications and other public resources can be found on the CDFA industrial hemp webpage at https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/industrialhemp/.
